Learn more about our Summer Program Internship. For another year, we’ve been aiming to enhance Indigenous participation in the IT sector. We are looking to improve the career insights of Indigenous youth around Canada

Program Overview

Information Technology (IT) is the fastest growing industry in Canada and is by far the largest spend with all levels of government and across various industries. According to Indigenous Services Canada, less than 1% of people employed in the Information Technology field are Indigenous. Every industry across Canada leverages technology and we are facing a shortage of highly skilled individuals to help us address the challenges that society is facing today.

We are thrilled to announce that we had another amazing Summer in 2025. Stay tuned to hear about our 2026 summer.

The Indigenous Internship Program, is an 8-week online curriculum intended to encourage the participants to pursue a career in technology and a life-long learning journey in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM). These skills build local capacity and often result in launching businesses that create higher income jobs on-reserve.

During the internship, I enjoyed when we had a speaker series. I also enjoyed doing some of the online courses we did, like cybersecurity and learning about the different cybercrimes. This internship helped me understand more about businesses, what they do with technology and other things they do. It also helped professionally by learning about different careers with the speakers we had and working with FNESS for our capstone project. Working with FNESS for our capstone project made me realize that I want to work in forestry. Others should take this program because it helps you better understand businesses and learn new things. It also might help them figure out what they want to do in the future

Being an intern with IndigenousTech.ai I have learned customer service skills, cybersecurity skills, financial skills, and even some basic coding skills. Furthermore, through the speaker series and networking sessions I gained crucial skills and information for creating connections and getting employed. I even had the opportunity to support the Westbank First Nation community by helping run a pop-up clinic. The overall experience of this internship allowed me to grow a range of important skills that will help me as I progress through life.

Working for IndigenousTech.ai's internship in Kahnawake was so fun and insightful, because they taught me things such as, cybersecurity, business fundamentals, financial literacy, and we're extremely supportive. It's perfect for a 15-year-old like myself and I recommend applying if you're around that age group
